Follow and Like:

Life has a way of leading you somewhere unexpected. And for me, that somewhere turned out to be Kyushu. The longer I stayed, the more obvious it became: this is a place you never quite finish exploring. There's always another corner worth peeling back.

It started with the obvious draws — the warm sulphur haze rising from Aso's crater, the mist curling over Yufuin's onsen rooftops at dawn, the charcoal smoke and chatter of Fukuoka's yatai food stalls, Nagasaki's harbour lights flickering after dark, the buttery sweetness of Kagoshima's kurobuta black pork, the quiet gravitas of Kumamoto Castle's stone walls. But those, I quickly realised, were only the tip of the iceberg. Kyushu reveals itself slowly, one journey at a time. Its cities pair sleek, beautifully curated shops with mountains, coastlines, and small towns where the air still feels unhurried. Whether you're here to eat your way through it, shop till you drop, or just find somewhere to breathe, Kyushu has a place that will satisfy every sense.

I've been living in Fukuoka for a few years now, and even with a constant stream of new spots to chase down, the to-do list never seems to shrink. Kyushu is simply too vast, too varied, and too interesting. My hope is that this site becomes a useful companion for planning your own trip. And, along the way, gives you a window into what life in Japan is actually like, from the everyday food and slower pace to the cultural quirks and small details you only notice once you've stayed a while.
